Matthew 12:34 AMP
You brood of vipers, how can you speak good things when you are evil? For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart.
Have you ever had moments that you have over-shared or you knew that you should have just shut up in a conversation? Here I was one evening opening my horrible mouth, assassinating someone's integrity instead of speaking of how they were a blessing. Instead of covering their unbecoming moment, I spoke slander from my pain that hadn't healed. It was me, I was hurt, I was harboring unforgiveness that was coming out of my mouth. I had anger while slander just poured from my lips. The fruit of peace and love was not there. I needed to repent and repent quickly. The words coming out of my mouth were garbage. It was not a reflection of them but a reflection of my heart trouble.
This is a faithful and trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance and approval, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost [the worst of them]. (1 Timothy 1:15 amp)
We have become adults with potty mouths because our heart is not right. Instead of growing into the maturity of love, our character becomes worthless and demeaning. We speak death instead of life, cursing instead of a blessing. We are to love as God loved us, we are to show mercy and grace as God has shown us mercy and grace.
If I speak with the tongues [languages, conversations] of men and of angels but have not loved [for others growing out of God’s love for me], then I have become only a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal [just an annoying distraction]. (1 Corinthians 13:1 amp)
Our heart troubles need a heart check from God. We need to uproot the harbored areas of unforgiveness and take responsibility for our part in the story. When we are under pressure what are the words that come out of us? In my repentance I didn't just pray to God for forgiveness, I told God to fix my heart, my character that under pressure His words come out of me, not garbage. That is love and unity, not strife and division.
Father God, in the name of Jesus we come to you for a heart check. To search within us and uproot every area of unforgiveness. We pray that our words speak love, kindness, and life. We bind every evil spirit of strife and division. We command our tongues to be loosed from speaking gossip. As we sit in the presence of people, let us be the ones who cover others with respect to their character as You Lord have covered our unbecoming moments by Your grace. Give us the heart of God, so that our words are the sweet fruit of Your Holy Spirit, lovely and pure. We ask in Jesus' Mighty Name. Amen
James 3:14 AMP
But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not be arrogant, and [as a result] be in defiance of the truth.
2 Corinthians 12:20
For I am afraid that when I come, I may not find you as I wish, and you may not find me as you wish. I fear that there may be quarreling, jealousy, rage, rivalry, slander, gossip, arrogance, and disorder.
Jeremiah 24:7
I will give them a heart to know Me, [understanding fully] that I am the Lord; and they will be My people, and I will be their God, for they will return to Me with their whole heart.
